Each week, the Breaking of Bread is a quiet time for remembrance shared by those who are in fellowship in York Street Gospel Hall.
We particularly remember God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in His death and resurrection; sharing in the simple symbols of bread and a cup which the Lord Jesus gave to his disciples.
In the bread and the cup are wonderful truths. Of a perfect payment made to God by the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross, making it possible for us to have our sins forgiven, and to receive eternal life through personal faith in Him. We can enjoy shared fellowship together and with God as we worship and praise God for his beloved Son. In each Breaking of Bread we are reminded of God’s promises and purpose, being fulfilled in the past, now, and in the future.
The Bible tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ still gathers Christians to remember Him in the Breaking of Bread, and that the Holy Spirit of God helps each person to worship God the Father in spirit and in truth. The Breaking of Bread includes singing hymns, reading the Bible, thoughtful contemplation, and prayers. In obedience to God’s word, the Bible, the men take the public praying and teaching role, and the women have their heads covered.
The Breaking of Bread is open for anyone who would like to observe. Christians who are seeking to know more about gathering to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to make contact. Christian visitors (baptised by immersion and who regularly break bread) are also welcome to make contact with us. You are encouraged to bring a letter from your own church or assembly as an introduction, and so we can be sure we are of the same mind.
