What’s On This Month

Our usual pattern is as below:

SUNDAY Morning

10.30am – The Breaking of Bread

Read more/less

Each week, the Breaking of Bread is a quiet time for remembrance shared by those who are in fellowship in York Street Gospel Hall.

We particularly remember God’s Son, the Lord Jesus Christ, in His death and resurrection; sharing in the simple symbols of bread and a cup which the Lord Jesus gave to his disciples.

In the bread and the cup are wonderful truths. Of a perfect payment made to God by the Lord Jesus Christ at the cross, making it possible for us to have our sins forgiven, and to receive eternal life through personal faith in Him. We can enjoy shared fellowship together and with God as we worship and praise God for his beloved Son. In each Breaking of Bread we are reminded of God’s promises and purpose, being fulfilled in the past, now, and in the future.

The Bible tells us that the Lord Jesus Christ still gathers Christians to remember Him in the Breaking of Bread, and that the Holy Spirit of God helps each person to worship God the Father in spirit and in truth. The Breaking of Bread includes singing hymns, reading the Bible, thoughtful contemplation, and prayers. In obedience to God’s word, the Bible, the men take the public praying and teaching role, and the women have their heads covered.

The Breaking of Bread is open for anyone who would like to observe. Christians who are seeking to know more about gathering to the name of the Lord Jesus Christ are welcome to make contact. Christian visitors (baptised by immersion and who regularly break bread) are also welcome to make contact with us. You are encouraged to bring a letter from your own church or assembly as an introduction, and so we can be sure we are of the same mind.

Here are some Bible references to follow up: John 4:23, Acts 20:7, 1 Corinthians 11:26, 1 Corinthians 14:34.

SUNDAY Afternoon

12.15pm – Sunday School

Read more/less

Come and join us on a Sunday, 12.15pm – 1.15pm during term time and for children aged 4-16.

Every week we sing songs about the Bible (with actions of course!), learn Bible verses and have fun quizzes and Bible teaching classes appropriate to each age group.

For younger children there is a play room and other practical activities, whilst the older classes engage in more in depth Bible study.

Male and female staff are present at all times and are DBS compliant. A number of our staff are trained teachers and/or very experienced working with children and young people.

We passionately believe that God speaks to people of all ages through His word and we enjoy teaching young people to love the Bible.

Parents are welcome to come along with their children.

If you would like more information, please get in touch via our contacts page.

Bible Class

Bible class is an opportunity to gain an understanding of what the Bible says; exploring the truth contained in its sixty-six books through reading, teaching and discussion. The purpose of Bible Class is to provide an accessible overview of key themes and teaching of God’s word so that as Christians, we can be better equipped to live, worship and serve God as he intends us to. In Bible Class, there is something for everyone, however familiar or unfamiliar you are with God’s word. In accordance with the teaching of the Bible, we are dependent on the Holy Spirit of God to help us understand the scriptures, and the men take part audibly.

Sunday Bible Class is 12.15pm – 1.15pm in term time, at the same time we hold our Sunday School. This means that children of parents attending the Bible Class can attend the Sunday School.

Bible Class is also available once a month on Friday evenings 8.00pm – 9.00pm from September to May. Accessible teaching is provided on a series of related topics, such as: lessons we can learn from Bible characters, what the Bible says about future events, and practical teaching for Christian living. For details of Friday Bible Class dates and topics, check ‘what’s on this month’.

Through regularly searching the scriptures, early Christians found and lived out the will of God for their individual and church life. Bible Class helps to continue their precious example. God has promised to bless those who seek Him and to honour those who honour Him.

You might like to follow up: Psalm 119:18, Proverbs 8:34-35, Luke 21:33, John 16:13, 1 Corinthians 14:34.

SUNDAY Evening

Sunday@6pm

Read more/less

Here at York Street we offer a programme of meaningful events to support your Sunday evening.

The hall is open from 5:45 pm until 7:30 pm and a warm welcome awaits you. The purpose of Sunday@6pm is to help anyone who is seeking and searching; for the things that really matter: the way to go, the truth to know and a life of joy and peace lived by faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

The Sunday@6pm programme includes:

A Gospel Tea once a month
Come and enjoy fresh home-cooked food and hear a message from the Bible. The Hall is laid out with round tables so you can share good food and chat easily with others over a cup of tea or coffee. The Gospel Tea opens with a hymn, and a prayer to God asking Him to help us.

Bible Teaching Meetings
Come and hear accessible teaching from God’s word the Bible. You will hear messages on a range of topics and themes from the Bible, each message relevant to people’s experiences in today’s world. Refreshments are provided at the end of the meeting and there is time to talk over what you have heard. For more information about Bible Teaching Meetings go to the information provided on the home page.

Gospel Messages
We want to share the gospel with you; it is God’s good news: ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life’. John 3:16.

The Bible tells us that God wants us to have a right relationship with Him. God is holy and just and we have nothing to offer Him because we do what is wrong. In the person of His own perfect Son, Jesus Christ, God provided the only person who is able to pay our debt to God. The Lord Jesus achieved this when He died on the cross. You can be certain God will forgive you and receive you because the Lord Jesus Christ has been raised again. He is a living and wonderful Saviour. He invites you to make sure you have recognised your need of being reconciled to God, and to place your faith in His great work of love on the cross. When you do this, a new life begins, one of assurance and blessing that will continue forever.

The Lord Jesus Christ has promised to ‘save to the uttermost all who come to God by Him’, Hebrews 7:25, and we can be certain He is able to do that.

A Time Together
The Bible encourages Christians to come together, to praise God and to share with each other what God has done for them. A Time Together includes singing hymns and choruses, enjoying a message from the Bible, sharing conversation and refreshments.
Listening and sharing our faith and experiences with one another demonstrates our mutual love and interdependence. Through sharing together we can better understand each other, and we can be helped and strengthened for whatever is ahead of us.

Check ‘What’s on this Month’ for up to date information about Sunday@6pm events.

You might like to follow up: Psalm 34:3, Mark 16:15, John 10:10, John 14:6, Acts 4:12, Romans 10:14-15, Hebrews 10:24-25.

WEDNESDAY

7.30pm – Bible Study & Prayer

Read more/less

In the prayer meeting, public and silent prayers are made to God as our Father, in the all powerful name of the Lord Jesus Christ and led by the Holy Spirit of God.

The Bible encourages us to pray in all circumstances and about whatever affects us and others; for example:

  • Giving worship, thanks and praise to God
  • The message of the gospel
  • The well-being of other Christians
  • National or international events
  • Events or needs closer to home in our church fellowship and our families.

Meeting together to pray shows our faith and dependence on God. The Bible tells us that God invites each one of us to pray to Him believing He is always ready to hear us; whether on our own or when we are together. God promises to hear and answer our prayers, according to His infinite holiness, love and power, and His purpose for our good.

Here are some Bible references to follow up: Acts 2:42, Romans 8:27-28, 1 Timothy 2:1-4, Hebrews 11:6, 1 John 5:14-15.

SATURDAY

7:30pm – Bible Teaching

Read more/less

Bible Teaching Meetings are Wednesday 7:30pm to 8:15pm, Saturday evenings 7.30pm-8.45pm once a month from September to June, and in our Sunday@6.00pm programme. Refer to ‘What’s on this month’ for current details.

Bible Teaching Meetings provide an opportunity to study God’s word in more depth. Led by knowledgeable and experienced Christians, Bible Teaching Meetings cover a wide range of Bible content and topics throughout the year. They can offer a starting point for further meditation, discussion and study.

The Bible tells us of God’s true, complete and final declaration to the world. Through the history, poetry prophecy and letters that make up the Bible, God has revealed the way to have a right relationship with Him, and to gain an understanding of His purpose for our world and ourselves. Far from being a distant God, or an abstract concept, the God of the Bible is living, all powerful, all, knowing and all present. His word can be relied on and remains living and relevant today. Through hearing and receiving healthy Bible teaching, an individual Christian can be informed, strengthened, encouraged, challenged and equipped to live for God’s glory.

Bible Teaching Meetings usually start with a hymn, and a prayer asking for help from the Holy Spirit of God to give and receive what is being shared. In accordance with the teaching of scripture, public teaching is given by trusted men who are well known to us.

Bible Teaching Meetings are Wednesday 7:30pm to 8:15pm, Saturday evenings 7.30pm-8.45pm once a month from September to June, and in our Sunday@6.00pm programme. Refer to ‘What’s on this month’ for current details.

We are blessed to have a Bible in our own languages and we would encourage you to read God’s word for yourself. If you don’t have a Bible and would like one, you may wish to use the ‘Contact Us’ page.

You may also like to follow up: Psalm 1:2, Psalm 119:18, Luke 24:27, John 14:13-14, 2 Timothy 2:2 and 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21.
